a day full of finals.

learned...

Today I learned that 7 am finals are the WORST. No one can think clearly that early. I got the scantron in french and of course did the whole thing with pen (Seriously? I've known since 1st grade that you can't use pens on those things.) And I didn't even fill in the tiny circles neatly like I usually do either. I made a huge X over each one. Even if it was in pencil, the computer wouldn't read the huge marks I made. I think my subconsious was pissed off that I wasn't still asleep. I honestly didn't realize what I was doing until I was half way through... so I just finished and said sorry to my professor when I handed it to him and he realized he'd have to grade it by hand. I don't even feel bad about it after seeing that guy everyday for the past 3.5 months. To make my sleepiness worse, it's 5 pm now. One more final before I can call it a day. Luckily this one won't use a scantron.

tender mercy...

I haven't been sick all semester and it finally caught up with me. Getting sick isn't the tender mercy, it's that I lasted a whole semester before today.

thankful for...

I'm thankful that my mom woke up early and brought me to school at 6:30 am this morning!

I had the funnest day with John this last weekend, and I wish it were today. We went on a really long bike ride. Our first stop was the Provo Mall for some shoping (for him) and lunch at Hot dog on a Stick. Then we rode to the Provo Library so I could pick up a tax paper. We considered a Slurpee but were too full from lunch. We strolled to Heidi's house and said hello to her roommates. I remembered a potluck that one of my classes was having, so we got back on our bikes and headed to BYU. We saw Kellie and talked for a second, learned about funny English words and had amazing Indian Food. Since we were already at BYU, we went to the MOA and I showed John the "Matter of Words" exhibition (which is really cool). Then we made our way home. It was a really great, relaxing day. And it was nice to spend most of it outside.

my wonka boyfriend

made me laugh...

Yesterday was John's birthday! So last night we went to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid to celebrate. The movie was actually pretty funny which I wasn't expecting, especially since we were the only ones in the theater. After the movie I was waiting around in the hall waiting for John. He came out of the bathroom and immediately did a cart-wheel. He is so goofy sometimes. It reminded me of Willy Wonka when he pretends to trip and does a somersault to greet the lucky finders of his golden tickets. I've never been greeted with a cart-wheel or a somersault, so it was a pretty funny/memorable experience.

tender mercy...

I had an oral exam for french. It was the last one....ever. It's pretty exciting to have finished all of those stressful assignments. I was really stressed out for the oral exam and for the written exam that I had right after. I went to the 3rd floor at 12:15 even though my exam wasn't scheduled until 1:00.

First tender mercy is that he let me read the prompt when I got there instead of being strict on the "You can't read the prompt until 5 minutes before the exam" rule. So I had plenty of time to write down what I did on my imaginary trip to Paris. Even if I didn't remember anything, it's always nice to have some planning time.

The second tender mercy is that there was this girl there who was really stressed too, but was being super funny and making me laugh. It calmed me down a lot and I'm glad we signed up for close times. She literally ran into the room when her time came because it was all or nothing. :) When she came back to our little study group in the hall, someone asked her how it went. She just said, "terrible!" as she laughed like crazy. It made me feel better about also...doing terrible.

thankful for...

I'm thankful for chapstick! My dry lips have been distracting me the whole time I've been writing this. And I have to put up with it for 2 more hours!

Distractions

tender mercy...

I found a flight to London that has Wifi, a place to charge your iPod, the latest films and direct tv. That might distract me from the fact that I'm terrified of flying. And since I'll be flying alone, distractions are a good thing.

thankful for...

I'm thankful that the library isn't cleaning there carpets today like they did the other day. It was really loud and distracting. I'm still not sure why they decided to clean the carpets in the middle of the day when everyone is studying. Today is very nice and quiet. :)

made me laugh...

Ok this is totally gross, but it made me laugh really hard... My dad picked me up from school yesterday and we were sitting in the truck for a second right after he parked. He took a deep breath and said, "I think it's nap time." Then I might've farted really loud (which made me laugh). He looked me up and down with this extremely concerned look on his face (which made me laugh even harder). Then he replied, "Nap time or fart time...I always get those two mixed up" (and I couldn't stop laughing).

Operation

made me laugh...

Friday I went over to Sam's with John and met his girlfriend Samantha. We had ice cream, played pool, and watched the Office. Sam gave us a $5 gift card to Walmart that he got at work. So after we left we made a quick stop to In-n-out and went to spend our $5. We spent over an hour wandering around Walmart trying to find the best thing to buy. We considered a few different shirts, Easter candy, strawberry plant......but the thing that won, that we both agreed on...was Buzz Lightyear Operation. We got home and realized we didn't have AAA batteries so we still haven't played our game. Something to look forward to today I guess.

tender mercy...

This weekend one of my best friends told me that the mole she had removed was stage 3 melanoma. Luckily she had it removed just in time and the doctor kept telling her how she'd saved her life by going into the doctor. I'm thankful that she felt the need to get it removed before the cancer could spread. A HUGE tender mercy. :)

thankful for...

Last full week of school!!!!

Pantry Peepers

tender mercy...

Yesterday I was in my last Floral Design lecture of the semester and we were talking about funerals. I guess we need to talk about funerals because it's a big floral event, but she was going off on everything else funeral related...picking a casket, which direction the person lays in the casket, etc. For some reason I just felt really uncomfortable and queasy (maybe because it was my first class of the day) and I was looking at the clock the whole time waiting for the bell to ring. And then my tender mercy happened. There was a fire drill. The alarm went crazy and everyone ran out of the class super fast. It really was the best way to end that lecture. With all of us running to the door.

thankful for...

I'm thankful that my cousin Ginny found these little snack boxes for me at Borders and bought them so they didn't sell before I got there. There are four boxes with goofy "pantry peepers" on the lids (pieces of food with giant eyes). My favorite is the winking croissant. I brought Wheat Thins to school in one of the smaller ones today...

made me laugh...

I've been watching the fifth? season of The Office lately. I didn't start watching that show until it was 3 seasons in and I would watch the dvds before I went to bed. It really is best that way. No commercials and you can watch as many episodes as you want. I stopped watching the show mid-fourth season. But it's been a while so I thought I'd catch up again. I was watching it with John and we could NOT stop laughing. Seriously. That show is just so funny.... As soon as the episode ended John started tickling me (it happens a lot) so I was laughing even more and I couldn't help being in a really good mood for the rest of the night. It didn't hurt that he bought me dinner either....

very superstitious

tender mercy...

I have a lot of superstitions that I've made up for myself and completely believe in. Since I was little I've considered it good luck to have a matching cereal bowl and cup. It's not something I mess with; I don't find matching ones. I just open the bowl cupboard and take the first one on the stack and do the same with the cup cupboard. When they match, I know I've started the day out right.

A duck crossed my path as I walked on campus this morning. That has to be the ultimate sign of good luck. Every time I see ducks they make me laugh. That Dawn commercial where they are cleaning the oil off of the animals is my favorite because at the very end a duck quacks and it cracks me up seriously every time. One day me and John told each other what our patronuses would be, and we joked that mine is a duck because they make me so happy.

made me laugh...

John likes to tickle me (because I'm super ticklish and it doesn't take much) but he isn't ticklish so I have no fair way to fight back. And I seriously have to fight back because it gets to that point where it hurts and I can't breathe because I'm laughing so hard. So I usually pinch. I'm an awesome pincher and he's always the one to start these fights so I don't feel bad about hurting him. He knows what he's getting into.

Last night, I don't know if it's because it was time for me to go to bed or what, but he started tickling me and I just laid there and laughed way loud. I didn't have any energy to pinch back and my laugh was making him laugh way hard, so he wouldn't quit. It wasn't even close to the painful tickles that he usually gets me with and actually turned out being.....pretty funny.

a little art history

thankful for...

I'm thankful Conference is coming up, for many reasons.

1. I don't have to go to work Saturday
2. I'm going to Gloria's Little Italy with John, Sam, and Samantha, after the priesthood session.
3. I don't have to get dressed Sunday
4. It's a sign that the semester is almost over finally
5. It's a sign that spring is here
6. It's a sign that there is plenty of Easter candy
7. I get to work on the blanket that I started crocheting 2 years ago.
8. And the obvious reason that we get to listen to the prophet :)

just learned...

I learned about the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and Impressionism today. And along with Degas and Monet, I added John Everett Millais to my list of favorite artists. Specifically his works, Christ in the House of His Parents, 1850 and Ophelia 1852.

In this painting, a young Christ (maybe 8) cuts his hand on a nail in Joseph's shop. Mary is concerned because she knows the wound on his hand is foreshadowing his death. The sheep outside the window are also anxious because they know what his wound is foreshadowing as well. Joseph leans in taking Jesus' hand by his fingers to take care of him. A young John the Baptist walks in with a bowl of water, also symbolizing his future role of cleansing and baptizing Christ. An older woman (probably John's mother) reaches forward with pliers to pull out the nail that cut his hand. And the figure to the left is James, the older brother to Jesus (Joseph's son from a previous marriage).

The whole painting has amazing detail with everything in focus, even as you look out the window. It is a unique image of Christ's life.

tender mercy...

We played pictionary in French and I got the word "une pizza".... LOL. Last time we played my word was "de l'ail" and I just stood there until the time was up because I had no idea what de l'ail meant...... It's the word for garlic. Like anyone is going to go to France and need to know how to say garlic anyway. Une pizza is much more practical. And this time I didn't look like a tard in front of the class.
